Outdoor space is popping up on more and more homebuyer wish-lists, so homes with patios are selling quickly and many new homes are being built with them. Almost 59% of new homes started in 2017 included patios, making them more popular than decks and almost as popular as porches.
The areas in the U.S. where patios have grown the most in popularity are the West Coast, the South, the Midwest, and the mountain regions. The Mid-Atlantic has the smallest number of homes with patios. According to research conducted by Home Innovation Research Labs, the average size of a patio on a new home is about 260 square feet. The most popular material for these patios is poured concrete, followed by concrete pavers, natural stone, and brick pavers.
